Neil W. McCabe, the national political editor of The Star News Network, a constellation of 11 state-focused news sites, which includes The Georgia Star News, interviewed Rep. Jody B. Hice (R.-Ga.) about his race for Georgia secretary of state.
Hice said it was frustrating to watch Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger botch the 2020 election, and be unable to do anything about it, and this frustration motivated him to run against him.
The congressman, who currently represents the people of Georgia’s 10th congressional district, said he has been fighting Democrats on Capitol Hill trying to undermine election integrity, so that along with the endorsement from President Donald J. Trump, he is the man qualified to restore Georgians confidence in the electoral process.
TRANSCRIPT:
McCabe: Georgia republican congressman Jody Hice is a member of the house freedom caucus is challenging Georgia secretary of state brad Raffensperger in the May 24th primary. Hice told The Star News Network what it means to run with the endorsement of President Donald J. Trump.
Hice: President Trump is the most powerful voice in the Republican Party nationwide. And to have the blessing of an endorsement from him is incredibly powerful in every way.
McCabe: Hice said he was motivated to run because he watched the botched 2020 election and was unable to fix it.
Hice: It was very frustrating having had conversations with Brad Raffensperger in fact actually having called him to be a witness to a briefing that we had.
Having been watching and keeping a very close pulse on what was happening in Georgia but being incapable of being able to do anything about it was extremely frustrating.
McCabe: Because of his experience fighting democrats trying to undermine election integrity in congress the congressman said he is ready to be Georgia’s next secretary of state.
Hice: The dismal performance of Brad Raffensperger and what he did to the election process in Georgia is inexcusable and someone needs to challenge him and take him out. And I believe that I’m the most qualified one to do that.
McCabe: The congressman said when he is in office he will rebuild for Georgians the trust Raffensperger has destroyed.
Hice: It is inexcusable for the secretary of state not to investigate all the complaints and allegations that have come to his office. Our election process is no longer trusted by a large percentage of voters in Georgia because of the horrible decisions that Raffensberger has made
McCabe: Going into the May 24th primary, the polls are tight but Hice has shown great strength raising money. He has collected more than $1.6 million compared to Raffensperger’s haul of less than 600,000. Reporting for The Star News Network, this is Neil W. McCabe Atlanta, Georgia.
